Air Quality Update
Because of potentially dangerous conditions on race day, we're moving our current Event Alert System (EAS) Level to Red for High Danger Conditions. Our EAS level is based on expected conditions for Saturday, and we are erring on the side of caution given how quickly conditions can change. As the race gets closer, the current EAS status will be communicated via announcements on social media, email, and color-coded flags at the race starts and at Aid Stations along the course.
Despite this elevated alert, we remain hopeful the 51st annual Canal Run can take place. We are actively and carefully monitoring the situation. The safety of our volunteers and participants is our primary concern. You can read our full statement on the situation on our Facebook page.

Canal Run Gives Back
The Canal Run is proud to announce proceeds from the 2026 Canal Run will go to Hancock Trails Club through the Canal Run Gives Back program. This program has put $36,500 into nonprofits that serve Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw or Ontonagon counties since 2011.
Hancock Trails Club maintains the Maasto Hiihto and Churning Rapids trails for non-motorized recreation, in coordination with private and municipal landowners. The majority of the trails are located on private property. Recreational access is at the permission of landowners. Winter trails are groomed for classic skiing, fat biking, and snowshoeing. Summer trails are maintained for mountain biking, hiking, and running.
