Prior to the 42nd annual Canal Run, the Finlandia University Cross Country teams will be offering a youth training camp designed to help young athletes properly prepare to successfully complete a running race.
This 10-day camp, which begins July 6, will include tips on dynamic stretching, sport-specific resistance training, racing strategies, technique, sports nutrition, and other basic topics in exercise physiology. The first class for each age group will meet at the Paavo Nurmi Center Strength and Conditioning Center. Other classes may start at designated locations.
The camp is packed with education on the basics of exercise physiology, dynamic warm-ups, running, hiking, strengthening, stretching and fun training games. The camp is for anyone six years of age or older. The cost is $50 per person which includes a t-shirt and camp photos. The schedule is listed below.
- 9:00 am – 10:30 am – 9-12 year olds
- 10:30 am – Noon – 6-9 year olds
- 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm – 13 and older
Participants will be encouraged to register as a team for the Canal Run on the final day of the camp. Coach Bridget Durocher will work with each participant to choose the best race distance to match their training experience.
