As part of their 2017 “Get Healthy” campaign, WLUC TV6 staffers will be taking to the rolling hills of Hancock for the 2017 Canal Run. It was a great fit for TV6 to get involved and help sponsor the event, which will host hundreds of walkers and runners this July 15.
Morning Anchorperson, Vicky Crystal will compete in her first Canal Run. Vicky has been spending much of 2016 and 2017 getting fit. She enjoys hiking and walking outdoors, so the Canal Run was a great fit. The race course offers scenic views of Lake Superior and the Portage Lake Shipping Canal.
Also competing on the TV6 GET HEALTHY Team is, Houghton-Hancock Reporter, Mariah Powell, and producers Sabrina Pietila and Justin Verigin. Both Justin and Sabrina will be competing in the 5-mile run. Pietila, who did the race last year, is excited to return and see if she can beat last year’s time. Powell comments on why she chose to do Canal Run. “Physical and mental health are both very important
“Physical and mental health are both very important to me,” Powell said about participating in the race. “Being able to participate in Canal Run is something I would not have been able to do a year ago, and it is a reminder to me of how far I have come and how much I can accomplish in the future.”
As a race sponsor, TV6 will be on hand at the both the Canal Run Race Expo on Friday, July 14 at the Finnish American Heritage Center, and at the race itself to give away “Get Healthy” tote bags, t-shirts and other great stuff. Stop by the TV6 tent and sign up to win a free prize.
