As Canal Run quickly approaches it important to remember the businesses that donate so much, making the entire race possible.
“Our sponsor list grows every year,” and we are so grateful,” said Angela Luskin, race director. “Our expenses have grown, as the race has grown, and so have our sponsors, which make it possible to put on such an incredibly huge event.”
All of the food available at the end of the race is donated. And there is a lot of it. The Canal Run get cases and cases of organic, fair trade bananas from the Keweenaw Co-op, as well as grapes, apples, pretzels and ice from Pat’s Foods. “We’ve been supporting the event for many years and we are happy to do it,” said Ben Campioni, owner of Pat’s Foods. “It’s an important community event that we are happy to contribute to.”
Organic Valley, an organic farming cooperative in Wisconsin, will again be supporting Canal Runners and Walkers with organic recovery drinks and cheese sticks. Organic Valley was founded on the idea that if we respect the land and work with Mother Nature, we’ll be rewarded with delicious, organic food we can be proud of. The Canal Run committee is excited to offer these amazing products once again.
More so than donations, the biggest thing our sponsors bring to the table is volunteers. “Putting on an event this size takes many bodies,” Luskin said. “Major sponsors are required to contribute volunteers. The commitment goes beyond financial.”
