It’s officially race week here in Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula as the 44th annual Canal Run is just a few days away. Good news: Registration is still open!
Every year we hear from many participants with questions that range from pressing to minor, and we try to get ahead of it by having a digital Race Guide on our website that lays out all of the information we have. However, that’s not always enough. Below you’ll find our most frequently asked questions heading into this year’s race weekend!
Is everything back to normal after last year’s flood altered the course?
YES! Last year we had to make a last-minute change because of the infamous Father’s Day flood, but this year all the bridges are functioning normal and we’re excited to be back to our normal finish line in downtown Hancock!
How much time do I need to get to my race start?
The general rule of thumb here is that plan on it taking 45 minutes to get from where the shuttles leave to your start. We encourage all racers to get out to their race start at least a half hour before start. Ideally a bit earlier. It makes life much easier for everyone involved, including volunteers and other racers, if people are at their start line early. Visit the Race Guide for more information on when the shuttles leave.
Pro Tip: Please do your best to not be on the last bus for your race.
Can I park at my race start?
No. There is no shuttle service after the race, so if you leave a car parked at your start line you will not have a ride back to it. It’s also important to note that there is not enough room at any of the start lines for several cars, especially at the two-mile, five-mile and half marathon starting lines.
Can I bring a stroller/pet/bike?
Stroller: YES! All of our races are stroller friendly.
Pet/Bike: No. These items are not allowed.
Where is packet pick-up?
Several years ago, we moved our packet pickup to the Finnish American Heritage Center, which is located at 435 Quincy Street. It’s a great spot and has plenty of street parking available in front of it and a parking lot attached to it.
In addition to picking up your packet, you can register, enjoy a pasta dinner and visit with some of our incredible vendors! Learn more about packet pick-up here.
Can someone else pickup my packet?
Yes, but if you want your free pre-race massage you need to show up in person. 🙂
Can I still register for any of the races?
YES! Online registration is open until midnight Wednesday, and you can register on Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Finnish American Heritage Center.
Do I need to preregister for the Kid’s Dash?
Nope. Simply show up and you’ll have a spot! Try to show up at least 15 minutes prior to the event. Learn more about the kid’s dash.
