Four weeks from today the 43rd annual Canal Run will take place in Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula. However, this year’s race will be different as an alternative course will be in place due to the damage done to M-203 during the storm that ripped through the Copper Country on Sunday, June 17.
“We are doing everything we can to make sure the Canal Run happens this year,” Race Director Angela Luskin said. “We recently learned that M-203 will likely not be accessible due to the damage of the Swedetown Creek. Alternate routes are being examined with a goal of offering all four Canal Run distances that were originally planned. Please hang tight as we work through these logistics. We’ll update you all as soon as we have more details.”
When plans are finalized they will be sent to local media outlets, announced on www.canal.run, e-mailed out to all racers, and posted on all official Canal Run social media outlets. The organizing committee is hoping to have this plan in place by the end of next week.
“It’s important that our community comes together during this time as much as we possibly can,” Luskin said. “This event is great for our economy, great for our moral and should be a time for all of us to come together and celebrate the sisu we’re showing in getting through this together.”
