The Canal Run lost one of its founders this year, and in recognition of the late Bob Olson, the race has renamed its signature event the “Bob Olson 10-Mile Run.”
“We wanted to do something special to recognize Bob and his commitment to the race,” Race Director Angela Luskin told TV6 during an interview. “Because of him, the Canal Run exists.”
Olson founded the event in 1975, and while its changed around quite a bit over the years, the 10-mile run has long been the signature event. For many years it was the only event.
“That essentially was the 10 miles that Bob ran nearly every day for many, many years,” Luskin added.
Fellow committee member Susan Rosemergy was also quite happy with the decision.
“It is wonderful to give it that name,” she said. “He was a well-known community figure. Just about everyone who has ever run that race, or has lived in this area is well aware of Bob.”
